The Bombay High Court in 2009 restrained Maharashtra Government from collecting any contribution under section 58 of the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950 from registered public trusts.
Vide order dated 16th July 2025 (attached), the High Court has disposed off the petition and vacated the interim order. This means that the State Government is now at liberty to impose levy of contributions from the trusts to the fund. This may not happen retrospectively but that is not clear.
