The Central Government has brought the four Labour Codes into effect from 21 November 2025, marking a significant shift in India’s labour law framework, with important implications for non-profits.
Part 5 focuses on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, outlining a unified framework for working conditions, health, safety, and welfare, while also bringing greater clarity to the classification of “workers” and “employees” through more consistent definitions. It consolidates key laws such as the Factories Act, 1948, the Contract Labour Act, 1970, and the Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979, thereby simplifying compliance under a single structure.
